Players reset their skills every fight and the choice stops mattering

If rearranging skills is cheap, every player swaps to the perfect build before each boss and builds mean nothing. If it is expensive, people fear trying anything. Here is a price that stays low for the occasional change, climbs for spam, and recovers on its own, plus a rule for when a reset is not allowed at all.

Why this works

Choices only feel meaningful when they cost something, yet fixing an honest mistake should stay cheap. A price that rises with recent changes and falls back with time punishes constant swapping while forgiving one slip.

When not to use it

Skip it when your game is built around trying many styles, such as a sandbox where swapping is the fun. A price there only blocks play. Make changes free, or let players keep several saved setups they switch between.
