A rare item drops and a player who cannot use it wins the roll
When a group shares drops by rolling dice, someone too low in level to equip the item can claim it anyway, selling it for a profit while the player who needed it watches. Equal dice make it worse. Here is a roll rule that is fair, handles ties, and is checkable from the dice alone.
Why this works
People accept a lost roll but not a rigged one. Letting the server supply the numbers and apply fixed rules afterwards makes every result checkable, and sending a tie back for another roll keeps a list position from deciding who wins.
When not to use it
Skip it with a close group of friends who would rather talk it over, or in a game where loot is bound to each player and drops separately for everyone. Then there is nothing to share and no roll is needed.
