Tell where a wandering trader is on any day so the player can find them
The trader who sells the one rare tool is never where the player looks, because nothing says where he is on which day. Here is how to give him a fixed round of stops and roads, answer where he is on any day, and tell the player the next day he will be in a given town.
Why this works
If a person's place follows only from the day number, nothing can drift: saving, waiting and skipping time all give the same answer, and the player can plan around a round they can learn. Stored positions that move step by step get lost.
When not to use it
Skip it when the trader should react to the player or to events, such as fleeing a war or following a rumour. A fixed round ignores the world. Then let the story move him, and only fall back on the round when nothing else happens.
