Count how many extra shelters a long route needs so no one is stranded
On the road across the plains there is a hut at the start and one at the end, and a storm in the middle leaves the traveller nowhere to go. Here is how to measure the longest stretch from any point to cover and to get the exact number of places to add, including the ends of the road.
Why this works
Safety is about the worst spot, not the average. A traveller can walk either way, so two shelters cover the ground between them from both sides, and the ends of the route need care because nothing lies beyond them.
When not to use it
Skip it when travellers can make camp anywhere, carry a tent or call for rescue. Shelters become decoration, and forcing a count of them only clutters the road. Spend that effort on supplies or weather rules instead.
