Work out which animals die out after you remove one from the wild

A plague takes the hares, and the story says the foxes thrive on mice anyway, while the owls are left with nothing. Here is how to write down who eats whom and follow the chain, so that the world's reaction to a loss is right, including animals that eat each other in circles.

Why this works

Life in a food web depends on an unbroken line back to something that feeds itself. So you build up from the plants and ask who can still reach them, instead of knocking out hungry animals one by one, which wrongly keeps circles of predators alive.

When not to use it

Skip it when the story, not the land, decides who lives, or when animals can move in from outside the map. Then the strict chain is too harsh and the world would empty for no reason. Use scripted fates or a refill rule.
