Make sure a hidden place can still be found if a clue giver dies
The only hint to the hidden spring comes from one old woman, and the player's raid on the camp ended her. Here is a check that counts the independent kinds of hint for each secret that can still be reached, treating hints that can be lost as half a hint.
Why this works
A player who can kill, skip or never meet anyone can cut any single thread. Counting kinds of hints, and treating those from one source as one, shows whether a secret survives the loss of its most fragile link.
When not to use it
Skip it when finding the place is meant to be rare or lost for good, such as a reward for the few who ask the right person. Extra clues would cheapen it. Make the single path clear and accept that some players miss it.
