Find inventions in your world's history that predate the things they need
The history says the sword was forged in year ten, the history of smelting says bronze arrived later, and nobody caught it. Here is how to check a world's list of inventions against what each one depends on, including those with no stated date, and to learn the earliest year each could have come.
Why this works
Every tool is made from earlier things, so a date only holds if it comes after the dates of what the tool needs. Even an undated step has an earliest possible year, and that year passes on to everything built on top of it.
When not to use it
Skip it when your world runs on magic, gifts from gods or knowledge brought from elsewhere, where things may appear with no ancestors. The check would call every wonder an error. Mark those inventions as given and start the chain after them.
