What is an item really worth on the player market when some trades are gifts or scams?

Player-to-player trades include presents sold for one coin and absurd prices nobody pays, and a plain average swallows them whole. This entry shows how to get a fair price from messy trades, including when one huge gift shouldn't move it.

Why this works

A plain average follows the loudest trade, however odd. Judging each trade against what is typical, removing the strange ones first and only then weighting by amount, gives the price that honest players actually pay.

When not to use it

Skip it for items that trade rarely or have no steady price, such as one-of-a-kind pieces, where there is no typical price to measure against. Then show recent sales plainly and let the buyer judge.
