How much of the evening goes to feeding furnaces and refilling campfires?

Machines that must be refilled are fun until there are six of them and the player is only running laps. This entry shows how to turn the burn times of your machines into the share of play time spent on chores.

Why this works

A player must return before the first machine runs dry, so the shortest burn time sets the rhythm for all of them. Chore time is then the cost of each round divided by that rhythm, with the walk paid once per round.

When not to use it

Skip it when upkeep is meant to be a planning puzzle or a ritual players enjoy, or when machines stand far apart. Then measure per cluster, or ask whether players feel the chores are a choice rather than a burden.
