Monsters change strength instantly whenever someone joins or leaves the group
A dungeon that matches its monsters to the group sounds fair, until a player leaves mid-fight and every enemy suddenly turns weaker, or a strong friend arrives and the boss becomes deadly. Here is how to follow the group's level without anyone noticing the change.
Why this works
Players read a sudden change as a mistake, not as fairness. The middle value ignores one extreme member, and moving only a little at the start of a new room means the world follows the group at a pace nobody can notice or exploit.
When not to use it
Skip it when you want a world with fixed danger zones, where players learn that some places are simply too hard for now. Scaling erases that sense of growing stronger, so keep the levels fixed and let players choose where to go.
