Spielerando

Two devices saved the same character differently and one version has to win

A player leveled up on the console, then on the phone while it was offline. Keeping the newest file throws away real progress, and simply combining everything brings back skills they had deliberately removed. Here is a way to merge the two so the character stays legal.

Why this works

Some things only ever grow, like earned points, and for those the larger value is always right. Choices that can be taken back need a change counter, because only then can a later removal beat an older copy that still has the choice switched on.

When not to use it

Skip it when the game has one server holding the only true save, since then no two versions can drift apart. Also skip it for anything that must never be combined, such as money; there, refuse the older save and ask the player.
