Do players just follow the first person who votes when votes are visible?

Showing who voted for what saves time, but it may also turn a group decision into one person's decision. This entry shows how to compare groups that saw the first vote with groups that did not, so you can tell real agreement from simply following.

Why this works

Friends agree often even without pressure, so agreement alone says little. Only a comparison with a similar set of groups that could not see earlier votes shows how much of the matching is people following the first one.

When not to use it

It is the wrong tool when you cannot run both versions at the same time on similar groups, or have only a few decisions. Then do not trust the gap. Ask players whether seeing votes changed their choice.
