After how many team wipes do groups give up on a story fight?
Some groups win a story fight on the first go, some need many tries, some leave. Counting only the winners hides the breaking point. This entry shows how to find the failed attempt after which most groups stop, and how to treat groups that are still trying.
Why this works
Counting only winners hides everyone who left. The useful question at each failure is whether groups tried again, and the point where fewer than half do is where the fight stops being a challenge and starts being a wall.
When not to use it
Do not use it for a fight that is meant to be brutal and is praised for it, or with too few groups to see a pattern. Then ask players how the fight felt, and offer an easier setting instead of moving the line.
