The market price of an item is wrong because two friends keep trading it at a crazy price
Two players passing an item back and forth can drag the recorded market price anywhere they like. This entry shows how to spot such pairs in the trade log and how to compute a price that ordinary traders agree on.
Why this works
A price should reflect what many unrelated people agree on. A pair who trade again and again are not a market, they can set any number they like, so removing the pairs that trade too often leaves the prices that strangers actually accepted.
When not to use it
It only stops simple back-and-forth trades. One cheater with several accounts looks like many pairs, and honest friends who trade a lot are dropped by mistake. For items that few people trade at all, the price is not reliable anyway: show how many trades stand behind it.
