Count how many different players you had today without knowing who they are
To know how many people play each day you must recognise a repeat visit, but you do not want a lasting tag that follows anyone around. This entry shows a small trick that counts people within a day and cannot connect one day to the next.
Why this works
To count people you must recognise a repeat visit, but only within one day. A name that changes every day lets the same person count once today and shares nothing with tomorrow, so the count works while nobody can be followed from one day to the next.
When not to use it
It cannot tell you who comes back, so it is the wrong tool for how many players return after a week. Use a separate, local measure for that. Reinstalling the game makes a new person, and if you do need accounts, for saving progress, this trick is not needed.
