Players at the level cap feel cheated when an update raises the cap

When a game raises its highest level, the players who were already at the top want their effort to count, but handing out a huge number of levels at once breaks the new content. Throwing away their extra play breaks trust. Here is a middle path that stores what they earned and releases it sensibly.

Why this works

Players judge a game by whether their time was respected. Keeping the surplus in a separate store means a ceiling that moves later hands back exactly what was earned, no more, so the change feels like a gift, not a cheat or a loss.

When not to use it

Skip it when you never plan to raise the ceiling, or when a level should mean the same thing for everyone at a given time. A bank there only piles up for nothing. Turn surplus into another reward instead.
