Working with AI
Learning paths through this topic
My hero sometimes stops dead in a wall while I hold the run button
Standing still against a wall is fine, but standing still for a second while falling or sliding is not, and a recording cannot tell the two apart by eye. This helper finds the stretches where a held button produced no movement at all, and how long each lasted.
Shots seem to hit me from nowhere, or pass through enemies that look hit
When what you see and what counts as a hit do not match, the game feels unfair, and the cause is usually the invisible box around a character. This helper compares that box with the picture and tells your AI what is wrong for your hero, an enemy or a pickup.
Enemies drop loot twice or keep hurting me after they are already dead
Double rewards and damage from the dead come from the same slip: something is told about a death twice, or acts after it. This helper reads a list of what happened to each character and points out the hits that came too late and the deaths that happened twice.
A bug appears only sometimes, so how often must I retest after the fix
One clean run after a fix proves nothing when the bug showed up in only some of your earlier tries. This helper turns the tries you made before into the number of clean runs you need afterwards, so you and your AI stop at the right moment.
I keep telling my AI the jump is a bit too low and it overshoots every time
"A bit more" and "a bit less" lead an AI to swing back and forth around the right value without ever landing on it. This helper turns your short answers into the next value to try, narrowing the range each time until you say it is good.
Everything my AI placed in the level piles up in one corner
When one part of the game counts in squares and another in dots, objects land in the wrong place, either squeezed together near the start or flung off the map. This helper looks at the positions and tells your AI which unit it probably mixed up.
My shooter feels sluggish and I want to know if the delay is real
Delay between pressing a button and seeing the hero act is felt long before it is measured. This helper takes the moments of your presses and the moments of the first visible reaction, and tells your AI how long the wait was, how it varies and how many presses got no answer.
My game runs fine at first and then slows down after ten minutes
Memory readings go up and down all the time, so a plain look at the curve is misleading. This helper reads them the way a careful person would, looks only at the low points between clean-ups, and tells your AI whether memory really grows and how fast.
I asked my AI for five changes at once and now nothing works
Five wishes in one message give five chances to break the game and no way to tell which one did. This helper sorts your wishes into rounds, so that what the others depend on comes first, and warns you when two wishes wait for each other.
I pause the game but some enemies and effects keep moving
A pause that stops most things is worse than none, and the leftovers are hard to spot by eye. This helper reads a log of what updated and when, and names every part of the game that kept running while the pause was on.
My AI forgets how my game works because the project is too big to show it all
There is only so much text an AI can read at once, and pasting everything pushes the important parts out. This helper chooses which files to hand over for a given problem, always keeps the one with the bug, and leaves room for the answer.
The browser shows a red message I do not understand and my AI guesses wrong
Some red messages say one thing and mean another, such as a complaint about a strange symbol that really means a file was not found. This helper recognises the common ones and gives your AI the likely real cause before it starts changing the wrong thing.
