Spielerando

Does this weapon reward practice, or is it the same for beginners and experts?

A weapon that everyone handles equally well adds no depth, and one only experts can use shuts out newcomers. This entry shows how to compare groups of players fairly, and why the grouping must not come from the weapon itself.

Why this works

A weapon rewards practice if experts do clearly better than beginners with it. Grouping players by skill measured elsewhere keeps the comparison honest, whereas grouping by the weapon's own results would make the gap look huge by construction.

When not to use it

It tells you little in games where skill is hard to rate from other play, or when a weapon is used by few people. Judge those weapons by interviews or by watching a few sessions instead.
