How do I rank players by kills and deaths when some played only a few matches?
A newcomer with a couple of lucky kills and no deaths shoots to the top of any ratio list. This entry shows how to pull small samples toward the crowd so rankings and difficulty matching are not fooled by luck.
Why this works
A ratio from a few matches is mostly luck and breaks when someone never died. Pulling each player toward the group average, less so as their record grows, ranks people by what they have shown, not by one lucky evening.
When not to use it
Wrong when you want to show a player's own raw results, or for games with team goals where kills hardly matter. Rank by what the game actually rewards, and show the plain numbers beside it.
