Spielerando

Players put points into a stat that is already capped by their gear: how much is wasted?

When a stat has a ceiling and equipment also adds to it, players can spend points that do nothing and never find out. This entry shows how to measure the waste by stat from real characters and how to tell a harmless overshoot from a trap in your menus.

Why this works

A cap turns extra points into nothing, and the gear a player wears decides how much of the cap is already covered. Looking at real characters shows which waste is a harmless choice and which is a hidden trap in the menu.

When not to use it

Skip it when stats have no cap at all, or when the game already shows the cap clearly and refunds points freely. Then waste costs players nothing and the measurement is not worth the effort. Just show the cap.
