Which character builds do players drop soon after choosing them?

A build that is picked a lot can still be a disappointment, because players change away from it a few levels later. This entry shows how to measure the drop-out per build fairly, without being fooled by players who simply stopped playing.

Why this works

A menu favourite and a lasting favourite are different things. What counts is whether players stay with a build once they have had time to see its payoff, and only those who had the whole window to decide can tell you.

When not to use it

Skip it when changing builds is free and fun by design, such as a game that invites constant experiments, or when a switch is forced by the story. There a change shows curiosity, not disappointment.
