Spielerando

A hero who joins late falls behind the party: how much catch-up bonus is fair?

A bonus for the weak member helps until it makes the whole party wait for them, or until players bench the leader to farm the bonus. This entry shows how to simulate how long the catch-up takes and how to stop the bonus from becoming the best way to play.

Why this works

Help should shrink as the need shrinks, so a bonus that depends on the gap fades just before the end. Because the last stretch is the slowest, a simulation shows the real waiting time that a formula alone would hide.

When not to use it

Skip it when the whole party always levels together, or when the late member is meant to start strong and needs no help. Then set their level to the party level when they join, and spare everyone the grinding.
