Do players need potions to win the fights, or are potions just a comfort?

The number of potions used per fight does not tell you whether a fight is too hard. Some players drink at the first scratch and others at the last breath. This entry shows how to count the fights where a potion made the difference and how much healing is simply wasted.

Why this works

Counting potions tells you about habits, not about danger. Replaying a fight without them shows whether anyone would have died, which is the honest way to see whether the fight leans on healing or only uses it as comfort.

When not to use it

Skip it when you have no record of the events inside a fight, or when potions are meant to be a gift with no balance role, such as a story game. Then ask players directly or watch a few sessions instead.
