Other players stutter on my screen even though the connection is fine

News about other players arrives in small packages, a few times per second, so drawing them at the latest news looks like a slideshow. Showing them a little in the past makes them glide, at a price you should choose on purpose. Here is how far back to look and what to do when news runs out.

Why this works

News about others arrives in uneven bursts, and the future is not known yet. Showing them a moment ago means there are always two real points to glide between, so motion is smooth, at the price of seeing them slightly late.

When not to use it

Wrong for games where seeing others late costs you, such as a shooter or a split-second duel, unless you make up for the delay when you judge hits. There, keep the delay as short as the connection allows and guess ahead a little.
