A player who respawns glides across the whole map on my screen
Smooth drawing of other players has one blind spot: when someone is moved instantly, such as a respawn, a portal or a checkpoint, the smoothing happily draws them flying there. A tiny marker in the news tells your drawing code when it must not blend. Here is the rule and what to show in the gap.
Why this works
Blending assumes the thing travelled between two places. When the host moved a player instantly, that is false, so a marker raised by the host, not a guess from the distance, says that no path exists and the picture should simply switch.
When not to use it
Skip the marker if everything really moves continuously, as in a game with no portals, respawns or dashes that skip space. Where a fast dash is meant to be seen, blend it normally so people can see where the dasher went.
