My character lags behind my keys in an online game

When every step has to wait for the host to answer, your own character feels like it walks through mud. The cure is to move right away and quietly fix things when the answer arrives, but the fixing step has a classic mistake that makes you jump forward twice.

Why this works

Waiting for the host to answer makes every key feel late. Acting at once and keeping a record of what was sent means a late answer can be checked against it: take the host's truth, then play your unconfirmed moves again on top of it.

When not to use it

Do not predict when the result of a move cannot be guessed, such as drawing a random card or opening a lock only the host can know. Show a short wait or an animation, and let the host decide before anything changes.
