Build a game where enemies walk a fixed road and your towers must stop them

A tower-and-wave game is a road, a stream of walkers, and shooters with a range and a pause between shots. Most bugs come from which enemy gets shot and from what happens at the very end of the road. Here is the loop with those decisions made.

Why this works

A road is a line, so an enemy needs only one number: how far it has walked. Everything else, from range to targeting, is read off that number, which makes the rules simple and a whole round replayable.

When not to use it

Skip it when enemies roam freely, fly over walls or choose their own path around towers. Then there is no single road to measure along; give them a real position on the map and search for routes.
