Settle who gets the last item when two players buy at the same moment
Two players press buy on the last potion in the same instant. Without a clear rule both get charged, both get it, or only one gets it but nobody can say who or why. Here is how the server decides fairly by arrival order, why the player's own clock must not count, and how the loser keeps their money.
Why this works
A tie needs one referee, and the referee must not depend on anyone's own clock. When one place handles orders in the order they arrived and checks them all at once, the outcome is the same for everybody and the loser never pays.
When not to use it
Skip it in a game with unlimited stock or one where each player has their own copy of the item, since nothing can run out. Where the item is truly scarce and valuable, add a short reservation so a player can finish paying.
