Spielerando

Accept an ability that the player saw as ready, even if lag made it arrive early

A player presses the button the moment the cooldown looks finished, but on the server it still has a fraction of a second to go, so the use is refused and the game feels unfair. Accepting a little early fixes honest players, but a wrong rule also pays cheaters. Here is how much to forgive and how to keep it from adding up.

Why this works

What a player saw was true a moment ago. Forgiving up to half the measured delay accepts honest presses that left in time, while capping it and measuring it yourself keeps the forgiveness from becoming a way to cheat.

When not to use it

Skip it in a game played on one machine or a slow, turn-based one, where no delay exists to forgive. Also skip it for abilities so strong that a small head start decides the game; there make the cooldown strict and visible.
