Spielerando

When a group breaks up, does the weakest player leave before the others?

A common belief is that the player who is furthest behind drops out first. Without a comparison it is just a story, because someone has to be first and someone has to be the weakest. This entry shows the fair baseline and a number that says whether the belief holds.

Why this works

Somebody always leaves first and somebody is always the weakest, so the story proves itself by luck. Only a comparison with what chance would give, in groups of that very size, shows whether the weakest really leaves sooner.

When not to use it

Do not use it to decide who to blame or to rebalance for the weakest alone. Leaving has many causes, such as boredom or a call from home. Ask the leavers why, and test help for low players before concluding anything.
