Spielerando

A player waits alone for a friend: after how long should the game offer a solo start?

Some people open a co-op story, find nobody there and leave. Offering a solo path too early robs the friends who are about to arrive, too late and the person is gone. This entry shows how to read the answer from what happened to people who had been waiting.

Why this works

Waiting looks fine if you only see those whose friend came. The people who gave up are missing from that picture. Looking at everyone still alone at a given moment shows whether a friend or a goodbye usually follows.

When not to use it

Do not offer a solo start when the story truly needs other people, or when players like to wait in a lobby while they chat with friends elsewhere. Then show who is online and let them invite a friend instead.
