Spielerando

Do groups that start a chapter late at night finish it less often?

Finish rates by time of day are easy to get wrong, because the server clock is not the player's clock, and midnight breaks the buckets. This entry shows how to turn start times into local parts of the day correctly, including the groups across midnight and time zones.

Why this works

People live by their own clock, not the server's. A start at night on the server may be a Sunday afternoon at home, so a time of day only means something once it is turned into the player's own hour, with the correct offset.

When not to use it

Do not blame the hour when the chapters differ, for late chapters are often longer, or when you cannot know where players live. Then compare the same chapter across times, or just ask players when they usually play.
