Change the weather smoothly, so a storm always builds up through rain and can reverse

Switching between clear, rain and storm with a single fade leaves strange in-between looks, like heavy darkness without a drop of rain. If the player or the story changes the weather in the middle of a change, things often jump. Here is a way where every mix is sensible and any change can be turned around.

Why this works

Weather in the real world does not jump: a storm builds through rain, and it can fade back. Placing the kinds of weather on one line and moving along it means every in-between moment has sensible values for rain, dark and wind, and a change of mind simply turns around.

When not to use it

Wrong when weather is a story event or a rule of the world, such as a sudden eclipse, magic fog that arrives on cue, or levels with a fixed climate. Then switch it by hand, because a gradual path would not match.
