Which lines of dialogue do players click through without reading?

A line that most players dismiss in under a second is one they did not read, however well written. Comparing time on screen with the time reading would need shows which lines to cut, shorten or move.

Why this works

Reading takes a fairly steady time per word, so a line dismissed faster than anyone could read it was not read. Comparing the time on screen to the time reading needs separates lines people take in from lines they merely click away.

When not to use it

Skip it for spoken lines, text that appears letter by letter on its own, or text that moves on by a timer, since time on screen then says nothing about reading. Judge those by whether players act on what was said.
