How much of my story does a typical player actually see?
Branching stories can hide a lot of writing in corners most players never visit. Counting how much of the story each playthrough touches shows whether the branching pays off or just spreads thin.
Why this works
Writing costs the same whether anyone reads it or not, so only counting how many playthroughs reach each scene shows where the effort lands. Branches are a promise of variety, and the numbers show whether players ever collect on it.
When not to use it
Skip it when the rare scenes are the reward, such as secret endings meant for the few who dig, or in a story made for many replays. Rarity is the point there, so judge them by how much they delight, not how often they appear.
