By how much must I change a number to hit a target time when part of it is fixed?
Halving the time a goal takes does not mean doubling the rate, because walking and waiting do not speed up. This entry shows how to compute the change a knob needs, when the target is out of reach, and what happens with whole numbers.
Why this works
Only part of a total time responds to a setting; walking, waiting and cooldowns stay put. So the change must be worked out on the part that can move, otherwise you overshoot and players reach the goal far faster than you planned.
When not to use it
Does not help when the target time lies below the fixed part, since no setting can reach it. Then shorten the waiting or the walking itself. Also re-measure for players who play very differently.
