Spielerando

Walking far from the starting point makes my character shake and slow down

Everything is fine near the start, but a long trek across a huge map makes movement choppy and finally stops it. Your AI will not suspect the cause. This entry shows how to calculate how far is too far, so you can decide what to do about it.

Why this works

Computers store positions with limited detail, and the detail gets coarser the bigger the number. Knowing the exact distance where your speed starts to be rounded wrongly turns a mystery into a map size limit.

When not to use it

Ignore it for small maps or when the engine uses double precision for positions. Then the limit is so far away that no player reaches it.

Say this to your AI

Use the Spielerando entry "Walking far from the starting point makes my character shake and slow down" (read_entry survival-movement-jitter-far-from-spawn) in my game. Build it step by step, and show me how you checked that it works.
