Most of the open world is never visited: how far do players really roam from their base?
A huge map is wasted if everyone lives near their home. This entry shows how to find the distance within which players spend nearly all their time, without letting idle minutes or several bases skew the answer.
Why this works
Time spent says more about interest than visits do, and the distance that matters is the one to the nearest home, since players with several camps would otherwise look like long-distance travellers. A limit on idle time keeps waiting from deciding the answer.
When not to use it
Skip it when players have no home to return to, or when the game is about a journey in one direction. Then measure how far they get along the route instead, and how many reach each stage.
