Do most players open a strategy game with the same first buildings?

If nearly everyone starts a match the same way, the opening is not a choice, it is a ritual. Here is how to count openings fairly, which players must be left out, and what share should make you look at your starting resources.

Why this works

A plan is a sequence, so two players with the same buildings in a different order made different plans. When one opening dominates, the first minutes stop being a decision and become a routine, which is what a game that wants to tell a story cannot afford.

When not to use it

Do not read a popular opening as a flaw when the game teaches that opening on purpose, as in a guided first session, or when players mostly share a tight budget. Then split new and experienced players before judging.
