After players reach their first ending, how many start another run, and see a new one?

Games with several endings live from replays, but a player who abandoned a run before ever reaching an ending is not a replayer, and one who replays the same ending is not exploring. This entry shows how to count the groups that matter and what each number tells you about the story.

Why this works

Starting again and finding something new are two different steps. Counting both among those who finished shows whether players give up between them, for example because the second start repeats the same long beginning.

When not to use it

Wrong for a game built to be played once, or for players who finished only recently and have not had time. Offer a way to skip scenes already known, and ask players whether they wanted to go again.
