How long does a chapter really take, when many players never finish it?
Averaging the time of those who finished a chapter tells you how long the fast ones needed, and misses the slow ones who gave up halfway. The chapter then looks shorter than it feels. This entry shows how to use the time of those who left too, so the typical length is honest.
Why this works
Someone who left after a while tells you the chapter takes at least that long for them. Throwing them away flatters the chapter, while using their time gives an honest middle even though they never finished.
When not to use it
Wrong when more than half never finish: there is no middle to report. Then say what share finish and where the others leave. It also needs enough players to mean anything.
