Why does almost nobody get my true ending? Find the requirement that stops them
A secret ending needs several things to be done first, and when few reach it you do not know which of the conditions is the wall. This entry shows how to follow players through the conditions one by one and, more useful, how to find the one condition that would unlock the most players if you changed it.
Why this works
A path with several conditions fails in two different ways: people drop out along the way, or they miss exactly one thing. Only the second kind would reach the end if that one thing were eased. So the condition that blocks the most near-finishers is the one to change.
When not to use it
Do not use it when the true ending is meant to be rare and hard, a secret reward for the few. Then few reaching it is the design. Check only that the hidden path is fair and can be found by clues, not by luck.
