Players who come back but start a new game despite having a save: worry or not?

Someone who returns and starts over might be a happy replayer, or someone whose save was lost, or someone who gave up on a story that confused them. These look alike in a simple count. This entry shows how to separate them and where in the story the unhappy restarts cluster.

Why this works

Starting over means different things depending on what was left behind. Someone who finished and begins again is enjoying the story. Someone who drops an unfinished game walked away from effort, and where in the story they were hints at whether the start was weak or something broke late.

When not to use it

Do not use it when restarting is the point of the game, such as one with many short endings or a loop where you begin over on purpose. A restart there is play. Also be careful if the game overwrites a save without asking; many restarts are then accidents.
