Time floor spikes that rest, shake, snap up and sink, with a fair warning

Spike traps feel fair when the player can read their rhythm: a pause, a tell, a sudden strike and a slower retreat. The danger must match what the eye sees, and neighbouring traps should be out of step so a corridor makes a pattern. Here is a schedule that does all of this from one clock.

Why this works

A trap is fair when the player can learn it. One clock gives a repeating rhythm to read, a visible tell gives time to react, and tying the danger to how far the spikes are really out means the eye and the harm always agree.

When not to use it

Skip it for traps that should be a surprise or a reward for care, such as a hidden trap set off by a step, or when the player cannot see the floor. There, trigger on the player's action and warn by sound or marks.
