Pull a menu cursor gently toward the nearest button without flickering between two
On a controller, aiming a free cursor at small buttons is fiddly. A soft pull toward the nearest button makes it easy, but if two buttons are close the pull can jump between them, and a pull that is too strong makes it hard to leave. Here is a pull that is strong only near the centre.
Why this works
Help should feel like a gentle nudge, not a grab. A pull that grows toward the centre has no step at the edge, so entering and leaving feel smooth, and sticking with the current choice until another is clearly closer ends the flicker between two.
When not to use it
Skip it when buttons sit very close together, or when players aim with a mouse or touch, who already point exactly. Use a plain list that moves one entry per push, which is quicker and never lands on the wrong one.
