The same scare or whisper keeps coming twice in a row

Picking one of several scares at random sounds fine until the same one appears three times in a row and the player stops believing in the others. Here is the drawing method that keeps things unpredictable but never repeats at the seams, plus why it needs a random number from outside.

Why this works

People judge randomness by how it feels, not by the odds. A true random pick will repeat, and the player reads that as broken. Dealing every variant once before any returns keeps the surprise while guaranteeing variety.

When not to use it

Do not use it when some variants should be much rarer than others, or when the player is meant to learn a pattern. Then draw by weight, or follow a fixed order, and accept that repeats can happen.
