Spielerando

An autosave in the middle of a chase leaves players with a save they cannot survive

The game saves at a bad moment, with the monster at the player's back, and every reload ends in the same death. Here is how your AI should decide when saving is allowed, what to do with a request that comes too early, and how long to wait after the danger ends.

Why this works

A save is a promise that the player can come back to a moment worth living through. So the game must judge the moment, not just the clock, and wait until the danger has really passed before it writes anything down.

When not to use it

Do not delay saving in a game with long dangerous stretches and no safe pause, or where a crash would lose a lot. Then keep a snapshot of the last safe moment, and save that one instead.
