Check that treasure in a ruin could exist when the ruin was built
A sword from a people who arrived long after the tower fell lies in its cellar, and a careful player wonders how. Here is a check that ties every find to the people who made it, the years they lived, and the year the place was left, with a way to allow later scavengers.
Why this works
An object tells a story about when and by whom it was made. If each find is held to the years of its makers and to the life of the place, then only a later visitor can explain what looks out of time, and the player's questions get an answer.
When not to use it
Skip it in a world where mystery is the point, such as an age with strange, mixed-up relics from no known people. Also skip it when the finds are meant as pure fun and no player will ask who made them.
