Do players go back to the locked door once they get the key ability?

Adventure games hide places behind abilities players get later, and if they forget the place, the reward is wasted. This entry shows how to measure the return fairly, even for players you only watched for a short time.

Why this works

A player who left early has not said no, they simply ran out of time. Counting only people who were watched for the whole window keeps unknown outcomes out of the rate, so a place does not look forgotten merely because players quit.

When not to use it

Wrong when the new ability is the only way forward or the place lies on the path anyway: coming back is then forced, not remembered. With few players, ask testers where they wanted to return to.
