A dropped player keeps their place, but not forever
A short disconnect should not cost someone their spot, yet a flaky connection must not freeze the whole team again and again. This entry shows how to hold a place fairly and when to finally give it away.
Why this works
A fresh allowance after every drop can be farmed by a flaky link, while one shared allowance for the whole match is fair to everyone. Adding up the time away, rather than timing each absence, is what makes the rule hard to cheat and easy to explain.
When not to use it
Skip it in slow, relaxed games where waiting costs the others little, or where a replacement can be dropped in at once. There, simply hold the place until the player returns, or hand it to a computer-played stand-in.
